Man bag One year jail term For Dangerous Driving

A Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court in Abuja on Monday sentenced one Aliyu Danjuma to one-year in prison for dangerous driving.

The Senior Magistrate, Aliyu Shafa, handed down the judgment after Danjuma pleaded guilty to the three-count charge against him.

The convict was charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop when ordered by the police, as well as hitting a pedestrian and running away along the Airport Road, Abuja.

The charges, the magistrate said, contravened sections 28(1) CAP 548, 35(F) CAP 548 and 34(A) CAP 548 of the Road Traffic Act (RTA).

Shafa said the first charge attracted six months jail term, while the second and third charges attracted three months each without an option of fine.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Jeremiah Elijah, had told the court that Danjuma was ordered to stop, but he drove further and hit a policeman.

He said the convict, who drove a car with registration number XF 314 GWA, inflicted injuries on the policeman, which took the efforts of a team of policemen to chase and arrest him. Elijah said the convict also caused damage to another car with Registration number FH 304 ABJ.

Danjuma, who pleaded guilty, begged for forgiveness, saying he would not do it again. He said “I don’t have any relation in Abuja, but I have a wife and four children. I want the court to tamper justice with mercy, I will not do this type of thing again.’’ (NAN)
