Ekiti 2014: Crisis Brews Over PDP Guber Primaries

As the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) prepares for the Ekiti governorship election billed for June 21, plots to install a consensus candidate seems to be generating fresh crisis within the party.

While the national secretariat of PDP has slated March 15 as the date for primary election for the emergence of governorship candidate, some aspirants of the party from the state are determined to ensure the emergence of a consensus candidate, saying it has the blessing of the presidency.

It was gathered that those aspirants will tomorrow meet with the national leadership of PDP, under Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu to advance their position for the adoption of a consensus candidate for the governorship election.

A governorship aspirant and former deputy governor of the state, Dr Abiodun Aluko when contacted confirmed that PDP governorship aspirants from Ekiti State would meet with the National Working Committee of the PDP to make a case for a consensus candidate. He said the idea has the backing of the presidency.

“The idea of a consensus candidate is from the President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan. In our meeting with him, he said it would be better for us to adopt a consensus candidate as the governorship candidate. (leadership)
