Unbelievable: Bird Turns to Old Woman in Lagos

The traditional ruler of Layeni Community, Bale Rafiu Olayemi, has labelled the story that a bird turned into a woman "unbelievable," saying "it is not possible".
A witness who only gave his name as Emeka narrated that he was sitting in front of a compound with his lover when they saw three black birds in the air flying as if they were playing and he jocularly told his lover, Kemi that two of the birds could be male, fighting over the only female one. He said barely had they finished laughing over the joke when one of the birds fell and landed on a moving pick-up van belonging to the Eko Electricity Distribution Company, while the rest flew away.
Emeka said the bird then, fell on the floor and suddenly turned into an old woman, with blood gushing out of her forehead, as she rolled on the road.
He said a large crowd was attracted to the scene and the woman confessed to being a witch from Ibadan and that she came for a meeting in Lagos and was going back when the incident occurred.
The source said the woman told the bewildered crowd that they missed their way which was why they were hovering in the air till daybreak, adding that she fell because of tiredness.

Brazil ready to quell protests during World Cup 2014

Brazil has stocked up on riot gear and is ready to deploy police and military forces to contain anti-government protests expected during the 32-nation World Cup soccer championship starting next month, authorities said on Friday.
Brazilian officials believe the protests will be smaller than the massive demonstrations that unexpectedly erupted in June of last year during a warm-up event for the World Cup.
The protests by Brazilians angered by the excessive cost of building the World Cup stadiums in a developing country with deficient public services have continued this year, but they have become less spontaneous and more violent.
World soccer body FIFA is worried that a resurgence of the demonstrations could disrupt the games.
The tournament will be played in 12 Brazilian cities between June 12 to July 13 and watched by billions of TV viewers around the globe. Some 600,000 foreign fans are expected to travel to Brazil to see their teams play

B’Haram: Nigeria Is At War

Plateau State Governor  Jonah Jang,  has said that the persistent violent attacks by members of the Boko Haram terrorist group have put the country in a perpetual state of war.
He said unless the insurgents are defeated, Nigeria would know no peace.
Jang spoke on Friday while inspecting the scene of Tuesday’s explosions in Jos.
The governor, who described the perpetrators of the incident, as enemies of the country, said nothing could stop President Goodluck Jonathan’s bid to seek re-election in 2015.
He said, “Nigeria is at war and this is the worst kind of war to fight when your enemies are unknown. Most of those who attack us are from outside Plateau or outside the country. They bring their bomb materials from outside and then assemble it in the state
“These people are from outside Plateau State and some are from outside Nigeria. When they come here, they don’t stay on trees, they stay in people’s houses and even the bombs are assembled in people’s houses. Why can’t we be patriotic enough to report them to relevant authorities?”  (osundefender)

Court Upholds FG’s Objection To Sanusi’s Suit On Suspension

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has declined jurisdiction on a suit filed by the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, essentially challenging his suspension by the Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, on February 20, 2014.
In a ruling spanning over 2 hours, Justice Kolawole upheld the submissions of the Counsel to the President, Dr. Fabian Ajogwu, and that of the Counsel to the Attorney-General of the Federation, Mike Ozekhome.
In his preliminary objection filed in opposition to the Plaintiff’s Originating Summons, Counsel to the President, Dr. Fabian Ajogwu, argued that the Federal High Court lacks jurisdiction to entertain the suit between Lamido Sanusi and the President since it bothers on labour matters.
Accordingly, he had urged the court to decline jurisdiction on it.
Towing the same vein, the Counsel to the Attorney-General of the Federation, sued as the 2nd Defendant, Mike Ozekhome, had in the hearing of the matter urged the Judge to wash his hands off the case as the court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the suit.

Ill-equipped Nigeria troops 'can’t fight Boko Haram'

A Nigerian soldier has reportedly revealed the dissatisfaction among the country's military forces and how difficult it is for the army to take on the al-Qaeda-linked terror group Boko Haram.

At least 223 Nigerian girls remain missing more than a month after they were abducted from their school by Haram Islamists in Chiboko.

According to Sky News, the soldier who preferred to remain anonymous, said the Nigerian army was poorly armed and ill-equipped to fight Boko Haram militants.

The report said only a few troops could be seen on the ground in Chibok despite government assurances that there were thousands of troops engaged in the hunt for the missing girls.

This comes as a host of African countries with the Western backing "declared war" on the extremists at the weekend.
