A 37-year-old father made a brief appearance at the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday charged with the rape of his 17-year-old daughter.
The man, whose name is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim, is alleged to have raped her several times since August last year.
This was only reported to the police last week after the father allegedly used a spear, heated on a fire, to insert into her genitals. It is alleged that on the night of 5 January, he found her in a closed toilet with a boy.
The boy fled. He then made a fire, heated the spear on it, and allegedly assaulted her with it.
The girl managed to escape and ran to her neighbour’s house for help. Plessislaer cluster police spokesperson Captain Musa Ntombela confirmed that they are investigating a sexual assault case.
The father was remanded in custody until 27 January.
