The Democratic People’s Party (DPP) might field candidates for the governorship polls in Ekiti and Osun, in 2014, its acting National Secretary, Abdullahi Mohammed, has said.
He said this in an interview with the on Tuesday in Abuja.
“If the party is not able to field a candidate at the end of the day, it would throw its weight behind any party that shares same ideology with it in the exercise”, he said.
Mr. Mohammed said that the party would ensure that the forthcoming polls were conducted in a “free, fair and credible manner”.
He advised all the stakeholders involved in the forthcoming election to co-operate with one another to ensure credibility of the election.
“I believe that if there is cooperation and coordination amongst political parties, INEC and security agencies, virtually nothing will stop the election from being free, fair and credible,’’ he said.
The Chairman of INEC, Attahiru Jega, has promised to make the two governorship elections a test case in terms of preparation.
Mr. Jega made the promise at the quarterly meeting of Resident Electoral Commissioners in Abuja on December 12.
He urged workers in the commission to put in their best to ensure the success of future polls in the country. premiumtimesng.com
