Insecurity: CSO Commends Sokoto For Installing CCTV

leadership A civil society group, the Caliphate Grassroots Movement, has commended the governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Aliyu M. Wamakko, for instaling  solar-powered traffic lights, close circuit television cameras (CCTV) and road name signage within Sokoto metropolis.
The group called on motorists in the state to obey traffic rules to ensure effective usage of the facilities.
The group said that the CCTV came at the appropriate time considering the security challenges facing most parts of  northern Nigeria.
In a statement by the group’s director of information, Mallam Dahiru Paki, the group expressed hope that the government will use the advantages offered by this CCTV to be a step ahead of criminals.

He further called on the contractors to sustain the good job with regular maintenance of the equipment to ensure that it serves its full purpose.
Project manager of G. A. Works Ltd, the contractor handling the upgrading of Sokoto metropolis, Mr Dennis Thompson Imasuen, said the equipment will serve the purpose of its installation with guaranteed durability.
He said, “This project type and specification is the first of its kind in Nigeria. We have brought in the highest quality of traffic and solar equipment, coupled with high powered, experienced and committed manpower and technical partners from Asia, not just for the customisation during production of these equipment to fit Sokoto terrain but we have also drawn out a constructive and sustainable maintenance strategy for one year.”
This according to him would enable the coompany to maintain and at the same time train Sokoto State government personnel to continue maintenance when the  project is handed over.
