Short of war or brutish violence, there is no way the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) can capture, recapture or reclaim any state in Yorubaland again.
“And the reason is simple: the destruction of the development infrastructure created by the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo for the well-being of Yoruba nation was ruthlessly destroyed by the PDP between 1999 and 2010 and the Yoruba nation will never forgive the PDP for it.”
This statement was contained in a press statement issued in Osogbo by Osun All Progressives Congress (APC) Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy, Barrister Kunle Oyatomi in reaction to the reported plan of the PDP to recapture the West, starting from Ekiti and Osun states this year.
The APC reminded the PDP that it was during its reign that some Yoruba leaders were killed without trace of their killers and the essential infrastructure for human capital development, as well as the industrial infrastructure that Awolowo laid down, were recklessly destroyed or sold off to competitors of the race within Nigeria and to foreign interests.
Since 2010 when Awolowo loyalists assembled in Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), now merged with other political parties to form the APC, finally recaptured all states in the West, except Ondo, that the Yoruba nation has been trying to reconstruct itself to attain the standard that Awo left and move forward from there.
“It is therefore inconceivable, that these people who have been so hurt by the PDP will for any reason whatsoever vote that party into power again.”
The APC argued that on balance, the PDP experience, both at the Federal and state levels, for the Yoruba people was and is an unmitigated disaster, from which people are still struggling to recover.
“Our educational institutions were destroyed; our leadership in business and industry was strangulated between 1999 and 2010. The great agricultural infrastructure laid down by Awolowo was left to rot and/or destroyed.
“Our children were forced out of schools, when these schools became non-accessible to them because of
Federal character nonsense. And today the Yoruba suffer the worse form of injustice through marginalisation in practically all aspects of governance at the centre, in a country, where they were once the pace-setters.
“All of this happening under the PDP rule.”
The APC stressed that as currently constituted, the PDP lacks the personnel, the intellectual capacity and the philosophical background to provide the Yoruba people with any form of well-being from Lagos to Abeokuta, to Ibadan to Osogbo, to Akure and to Ado Ekiti, because the people’s experience with them was that of monumental failure.
The APC therefore called on Yoruba people to be wary of those politicians of preys assembled in the PDP, because all they are out to do is to feed fat on the Yoruba people and their resources.
