Aregbesola Promises To Place Traditional Rulers In Rightful Place

The governor of the State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has stated that his administration is all out to place the traditional institutions in the state in their rightful positions of honour and dignity, as well as restore all ancient monuments, statues, customs and traditions.

The State Commissioner for Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs, Barrister Kolapo Alimi who represented the governor, made this known at Iragberi in Egbedore Local Government Council Area of the state, during the official presentation of Instrument of appointment and Staff of Office to Aragberi of Iragberi, Oba  Folorunsho Agboade Makanju Ilufemiloye (Osunsoko I).

The governor informed the people that his administration highly recognizes traditional institutions in the state, adding that traditional institutions are indispensable tools for any government because they are the path-finders who represent the people at the grassroots.


Aregbesola also stated that one of the objectives of his administration is to create an atmosphere that would bring about communal peace, harmony and tranquility among the good people of the state,  adding that his government believes in freedom of religion and religious tolerance, stressing that his administration relates equally with all religions and this manifests in all official engagements.

He therefore charged the people to create an enabling environment for peace, understanding and unity, as the government is poised to stamp-out all forms of hooliganism, thuggery and violence.

The governor then congratulated the people of Iragberi and called them lucky, because of the calibre of person the new monarch is.

The leader of Iragberi community, Barrister Matthew Laogun, appreciated the co-operation of the people that rallied support for the new monarch.

The new Aragberi of Iragberi, Oba (Dr) Folorunsho Agboade Makanju Ilufemiloye Osunsoko (I) thanked Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola for endorsing the choice of the people of Iragberi by strictly following the principle of justice and equity.

He solicited the co-operation of his people and friends to move the town to greater heights.

The highpoints of the occasion was the rendition of traditional songs and ‘Bata’ dance by Ajangila Cultural Troope and Badagry Cultural group.

Barrister Kolapo Alimi later presented the staff of office to the new monarch.

Present on the occasion were the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Sunday Akere and that of Justice, Barrister Wale Afolabi, Honourable Abiodun Awolola, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Mufutau Oluwadare, Director Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Kunle Olatunji, prominent traditional rulers, sons and daughters of Iragberi, as well as well-wishers.
