At Last Jonathan Bowdawn For New Emir of Kano

Former Central Bank Governor, Lamido Sanusi, met with President Goodluck Jonathan for the first time since he (Sanusi) became the Emir of Kano.   

Sanusi was one of the northern traditional rulers who joined President Jonathan in the Presidential Villa, Abuja, for the breaking of Ramadan fast. 

The traditional rulers were led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III.

Sanusi led others in a special prayer for peace during the short event held inside the President’s residence.

The President later took turns to shake hands with all the traditional rulers in attendance, including Sanusi.

Abubakar, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, condemned the bomb blasts recorded in Kaduna earlier in the day, as well as other acts of violence across the country.

While describing the perpetrators as enemies of humanity, he insisted that they and their sponsors had no Islamic agenda.

He requested that the President should grant the traditional rulers an audience in the nearest future in order to discuss issues of national importance.

Nigeria Bomb Blast Update: Jonathan cancels Ibadan trip to visit bomb scene

More than 20 people were killed at the early hours on Monday, following bomb explosion affecting two fully loaded luxury busses at Nyanya Park on the outskirts of the capital city, Abuja.

Nyanya Motor Park is 33 kilometres from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

Two luxury buses, each carrying about 50 passengers on their way to resume to their different offices in Abuja, were affected in the bomb blast.

No official figure has been released for causalities, but eye witnesses said over 20 are already dead.

Some passers-by also sustained different degrees of injuries.

Earlier before the bomb blast, the bubbly Nyanya Motor Park, was crowded with workers and people waiting to board vehicles to their different places of work and offices in Abuja.

Soldiers and bomb disposal experts have cordoned off the area over suspicion of an undetonated bomb, while people were warned not to move near the explosion scene.

Former Minister of Aviation and one of the fiercest critics of President Goodluck Jonathan, Femi Fani Kayode yesterday visited the Presidential Villa where he held discussions with the President.

Though he declined to divulge what he discussed with the President, Femi Fani-Kayode told state House Correspondents that every Nigerian who feel strongly about an issue should be able to discuss with the president about it.

2015: Court Dismisses Suit Seeking to Stop Jonathan's Re-Election Bid

A Federal High Court in Kaduna yesterday struck out a suit seeking to restrain President Goodluck Jonathan from seeking a re-election in the 2015 election.

The suit was filed by two chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Richard Mneaga and Shuaibu Lill.

The plaintiffs had sought among other things, for an order to disqualify Jonathan from presenting himself as the presidential candidate of the PDP in the 2015 election.

The also wanted the court to order the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to restrain the PDP from accepting the nomination of Jonathan as its presidential candidate in the 2015 election. In the suit, filed on October 7, 2013, the plaintiffs insisted that Jonathan had completed his eight years in office as president of the country, beginning from May 29, 2007.

Tell Jonathan to Intensify His Fight against Corruption - Amaechi to UK Government

Rivers State Governor who is also the chairman of Nigeria governors' Forum (NGF), Rotimi Amaechi, has called on the British Government to appeal to President Goodluck Jonathan to intensify his effort in the battle against corruption.


Governor Rotimi also expressed concern over the way the Federal Government was going about the crusade against oil theft in the country, which he noted, has largely depleted the country’s resources.

Goodluck Jonathan visits Adamawa today

The number one citizen of Nigeria,President Goodluck Jonathan is to pay a one-day visit to Adamawa State today.

Jonathan is expected to commission a number of projects undertaken by the Nigerian Air Force, NAF, under the then Chief of Air Staff, CAS, now Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, Air Marshal Alex Badeh.

Among the projects to be commissioned are the NAF Comprehensive Secondary School located in the state capital and the Terminal Building of the Yola International Airport.

Security has been beefed up in the state which had been under emergency rule since May last year, even as the streets of Yola are now wearing a new look, owing to the visit.

Military authorities in the state have advised residents to keep off the streets the president is expected to ply during the visit between 7am to 2pm today. vanguardngr.com
