Nigeria Immigration understaffed; 1,400 illegal borders exists – Comptroller-General

Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, David Parradang, yesterday raised the alarm that over 1,400 illegal borders exist in Nigeria.
Parradang, who appeared before the Committee on Immigration and Related Matters at the ongoing National Conference, lamented that the 22,300 staff currently employed by the Immigration Service were insufficient.
According to him, a minimum of 5,000 officers are required annually if it must discharge its responsibilities.
On the Boko Haram crisis in the North East states, the CG said only five legal control posts exist in that region, in addition to 80 illegal routes through which the sect members come into the country.
“There are numerous border crosses into this country, 1400 illegal routes which are not manned, this has threatened the security of the nation.
